Importance of RF consultancy in wireless product development.

At the beginning of a wireless product development, decisions related to the RF system direct you to the correct path. That is why many companies hire RF consultants to help make the right choices.  Our RF consultancy focuses on, but not limited to, the following 4 key aspects.

RF SYSTEM DESIGN & KEY COMPONENT SELECTION

Consultancy services for selecting key components for your communication system.

SYSTEM DESIGN FOR MULTIRADIO DEVICES

Design key features of your device to accommodate the use of multiple radios in one device.

RF DESIGN FOR NOISY ENVIRONMENTS

RF design to achieve good wireless performance even in noisy environments where normal designs fail.

RF PRODUCTION TEST SPECIFICATION AND IMPLEMENTATION

Find the balance of testing and overspecifying to avoid unnecessary costs and delays.

RF SYSTEM DESIGN & KEY COMPONENT SELECTION

When creating a wireless product including one or more radios, there are several things to consider:

  • Which protocol(s) or system(s) to select
  • What components or modules to select
  • What level of performance to expect with each of the options
  • Ease of integration, in other words amount of work required.
  • Cost of the solution
  • Regulatory constraints or additional work resulting from the selections made

We have experience of designing complete systems, ranging from simple sensors to devices with multiple radios. We can help you to make the best selections right from the start to save you both money and time by making the things right the first time.

SYSTEM DESIGN FOR MULTIRADIO DEVICES

Things can easily get tricky when multiple radios need to operate simultaneously in one single device. There are several performance and regulatory pitfalls that can be avoided by appropriate co-existence design between the radio modules. Typical solutions mitigating issues arising from multiple radios operating in same device include:

  • HW-level timing control of different transmitters and receivers (module/component selections must support this functionality)
  • Additional filtering in transmitters and receivers
  • Analysis of required isolations between antennas and designing appropriate antenna solutions to support these requirements

Our experts have deep understanding and experience in solving any kind of issues related to multi-radio design. We have also experience of going through the regulatory processes with such devices, and we can help in advance to avoid unpleasant surprises at certification phase.

RF DESIGN FOR NOISY ENVIRONMENTS

Modern digital devices with high speed processors and interfaces can form really hostile environment for sensitive receivers. In such situations having great receiver sensitivity, or great performing antenna does not help as surprisingly often the system performance is limited by the noise created by the system and picked up by the antenna.

We have experience and facilities to characterize possible noise sources in your product even before anything gets build, and we can help you design the system and its antennas in a way that noise problems are minimized right from the beginning.

Our experts have (collectively) made all possible mistakes already in the past so that our customers don’t have to anymore repeat those mistakes!

RF PRODUCTION TEST SPECIFICATION AND IMPLEMENTATION

Verification of successful production is a step that gets easily neglected in a project. Designing last minute solutions for factory environment to make sure product is manufactured flawlessly often yields into clumsy and non-cost optimized production testing. Along their careers, our experts have specified, designed and setup numerous test systems to production environments to make sure each product leaving factory is perfect.

Practical work for designing a cost-effective production test setup includes specification of the required tests, selection of test hardware (e.g needed testers and antenna couplers), setting up the system in practice. We can also provide aneeded code (SW) for automated test systems to run with minimum manual effort from production personnel.
